Kiat Tan Wei Jie (b.1994) is a Photographer, Artist and Director based in Singapore. He graduated with a Diploma in Mass Communication from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in 2015, and is now pursuing a Degree in Design Communication at Lasalle College of the Arts.
He was first introduced to photography and journalism in polytechnic, and his interest landed him a photojournalism internship at Singapore Press Holdings, The New Paper. A few months later, he had a short stint as a journalist for The New Paper.
In 2018, Kiat founded Ki Visuals, a Singapore-based photography and videography entity specialising in events, weddings, studio shoots and other client-related work. With six years of experience in the media industry, he has worked with various brands and agencies such as Apple, Canon, Singapore Press Holdings, just to name a few.
Kiat uses his work to propel himself through the everyday, presenting his works through a myriad of mediums such as photography, film and print. In particular, the movement of light intrigues him. Recently, he started experimenting with polaroid and medium format prints, with an interest in the study of light and shadows. His current creative pursuit “when light meets matter” is an exploration of the metamorphosis of light as it travels along planes. There is beauty in the ephemeral nature of light and time, and he attempts to immortalize the feeling of this fleeting beauty in his images.
In 2016, Kiat's photography series “Any Given Weekend” was published as a photo-essay in the +50 THIS IS SINGAPORE book, and exhibited in the "best of show" category for NOISE Singapore’s 2016 showcase. In the same year, he published his own book “Gurney Drive” in THEBOOKSHOW Open Call.
He is currently working on a few personal projects and commissions.
